for 17 years I have been doing portrait photography of classical musicians, and every time amazing people with a unique view of the world come to shoot. This experience leads me to an important question: what made them so talented and unique? The Sounds of Memory project is aimed at studying the influence of the environment and the accidents that shape personality. This is a methodical deconstruction of the very myth of “genius” and the search for the talent code in the vulnerable fabric of human experience. I appeal to the memory of musicians through interviews, which become my tool for activating the past, an attempt to materialize those very “subtle influences”, details and minutiae of childhood. Individual and touching narratives are not just stories, but fragile aesthetic shelters created to protect the unique human “code” from the digital entropy of unification and oblivion. I turn them into “time capsules” for future generations, but not as nostalgic artifacts, but as a strategy to resist the disappearance of individuality in the noise of modernity.Photography in the project serves as a deconstruction of the image: it removes the veil of the classical icon from the musician, exposing the vulnerability and complexity of the personality behind the skill. The book materializes the intangible: the visual series becomes an attempt to translate the inner landscape (how the characters “think music”, “hear the world”) into a visible form.I strive not only to open the door to the past of my characters to the audience, but also as an artist to give new life to these memories through my reinterpretation. I use the “fragments” of their personal traditions and memories to build new semantic shelters not only for the present, but also for the future of art, which has yet to be born.
